Refrigerated air dryers are the most widely used way to remove moisture from a compressed air system, protecting your tools, pipework and finished product from the corrosion and water damage that wet air causes.

How a refrigerated air dryer works

Warm, wet air leaving the compressor is cooled so the water vapour condenses into liquid, which is then drained away before the air continues to your tools. This typically achieves a pressure dew point of around +3C, which is clean and dry enough for the vast majority of workshop, automotive and industrial applications.

Refrigerated vs desiccant drying

Refrigerated dryers are the right choice for general-purpose air. If your application needs ultra-dry air, such as instrumentation, outdoor or sub-zero pipework or critical processes, a desiccant dryer achieves a much lower dew point and is the better option. Many sites use a refrigerated dryer for the bulk of their air and a desiccant dryer on a critical branch.

Sizing a refrigerated air dryer

Size the dryer to your compressor's air delivery (CFM) and working pressure, allowing headroom for high ambient temperatures in summer. Pairing a dryer with the right filtration and an air receiver gives the cleanest, most stable air supply. Our team can match a dryer to your system and arrange UK delivery.
